Tameside College is the first employer in the borough to sign the Armed Forces Covenant. The agreement recognises the college’s commitment to support retired service staff and help them adapt to new roles after a career in the armed forces. The covenant is recognised by the Ministry of Defence with over 1500 employers signing up to the agreement across the UK.

David Brown, Tameside Armed Services Community Coordinator, said: “Tameside College is setting a great example to others as the first employer in Tameside to sign the Armed Forces Covenant. There are over 4,000 veterans in the borough and the college’s commitment will encourage other employers to sign up and improve access to employment. Service people often find it difficult to access housing and work on their return to civilian life. By signing this agreement, Tameside College has shown its support and recognition of the many difficulties former service people face.”

Jackie Moores, Principal of Tameside College, said: “Tameside College and Clarendon Sixth Form College are very proud to be able to support current and ex-servicemen and women through the armed forces covenant. I would urge any veteran to access our employment opportunities or indeed education and training with the college. The college currently has very strong partnerships with all the armed forces through its public services provision and we work closely with them. Working with TASC and having the opportunity to be part of events such as the poppy launch gives our staff and students an insight into TASC as an organisation and enables the college to celebrate our serving forces and veterans and promote British values.”
